About Dr. Edith D. Gurewitsch Allen
Dr. Edith D. Gurewitsch Allen is a board-certified Obstetrician, Gynecologist, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is Professor and Interim Chair and Executive Vice Chair at Montefiore Einstein. She completed an MD at the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University and a Master of Education in Health Professionals from Johns Hopkins School of Education. She also earned her MBA in Health Care Management at Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School.
Dr. Allen completed a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at The New York Hospital Cornell University Medical Center. Her areas of expertise include Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Genetics, Family Planning, and Birth Control. She was a faculty member in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine until 2018. Dr. Allen is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Edith received the R-49 grant from the CDC National Center for Injury Prevention and Control as Principal Investigator of a research program entitled Preventing Unintentional Mechanical Birth Injury from 2004 to 2007. She is currently funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for a 5-year, $2M R-18 grant to study the optimal methods for training.
