Dr. James A. Grifo is an Infertility Specialist and Reproductive Endocrinologist in New York. He earned a PhD in 1982 and an MD in 1984 both from Case Western Reserve Medical School. He also completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology in 1990 from Yale University School of Medicine. 1. Dr. Grifovhave pioneered techniques called preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and preimplantation genetic screening (PGS), which examine specific genes and chromosomal numbers in early embryo development.
2. In 1992, he performed the first embryo biopsy that resulted in a live birth in the United States.
3. Dr. Grifo’s research team produced the NYU Vitrification Method, which has been in use at the Center since 2004. The first baby born through the use of egg freezing at the Center was in July 2005.
